What a WOF covers
A WOF is a safety inspection, not a service. Here is a summary of what we look at. It is not the official checklist, so ask us about your vehicle.
Brakes
Braking performance, pads, discs, brake lines and the handbrake.
Steering and suspension
Play in the steering, worn joints and bushes, and shock absorbers.
Lights and indicators
Headlights, brake lights, indicators and reflectors all working.
Windscreen, wipers and washers
Cracks or damage in the driver's view, and wipers and washers that work.
Seatbelts and airbags
Seatbelts in good order, and no airbag warning light showing.
Body, doors and structure
Rust or damage that affects safety, plus doors, bonnet and boot latches.
Exhaust and fuel system
Leaks, secure mounting, and excessive smoke or noise.
Driver-assist warning lights
Emergency braking and lane keep assist warning lights are checked, on vehicles that have them.

Simple and clear, with no surprises.
Book
Book online or call us. If you want a service as well, book both and save a trip.
Drop off or wait
Most WOFs take about 45 minutes. Wait on site, or leave the car with us.
We inspect
We check the vehicle and tell you the result. If it passes, you are done.
Repairs only with your yes
If something needs attention, we explain it and quote the repair first. Nothing is fixed until you agree.
How often
How often does a vehicle need a WOF?
The rules change on 1 November 2026. This is a summary of the NZTA schedule for light vehicles, so check your WOF label or the NZTA website for your own vehicle.
4 years
New vehicles
The next WOF after registration is due at 4 years old, instead of 3, from 1 November 2026.
Every 2 years
Vehicles aged 4 to 14 years
Moving to two-yearly in stages. First registered on or after 1 November 2019: from 1 November 2026. First registered from 1 November 2013: from 1 November 2027. Until your stage starts, your current interval applies.
Every year
Vehicles aged 14 to 26 years
No change. A WOF is still needed every year.
Every year
Vehicles registered before 2000
From 1 November 2026, older vehicles that had a WOF every 6 months move to yearly.
